MoLSAMD Holds Second Round of Lottery for Micro Entrepreneurship Grants Assistance

Kabul 5 November 2016: The NATEJA project under the National Skills Development Program (NSDP) today held the draw for selecting beneficiaries after registration and assessment processes of the entrepreneurs, in the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled (MoLSAMD).

The draw was inaugurated in the presence of H.E Dr. Ahmad Shah Salehi, Deputy Minister of labor of MoLSAMD, Mohammad Asif Stanikzai, Acting Director of NSDP, representative of the Hamkar organization, implementation supervisors and employees of the National Skills Development Program.

At the opening of the ceremony H.E Dr. Ahmad Shah Salehi said: “This program is being implemented by the support of the World Bank, Government of Afghanistan, the Finance Ministry and other implementing agencies”.

He added: “The previous round of lottery was held about six months ago, the program in under implementation in three provinces, namely Kabul, Nangarhar and Balkh”.

Grants Assistance for micro entrepreneurship is one of the components of NATEJA project which is carried out with financial support of the World Bank. These grants are provided after rigorous selection process which involves application form, screening, scoring, interview, lottery and physical verification. It has proven to be an effective process to identify best potential micro entrepreneurs in equitable way.

The project had received close to 17000 applications including male and female for 2520 grants in 3 provinces of which 840 grants were allocated for each province. NATEJA has already selected 775 applicants in batch 1 and distributed the grants. Batch two process of selected is on-going and it is expected that remaining 1745 aspiring youth entrepreneurs after today’s draw would receive the grant by Dec 2016.

Over all, the grant had 30% women representation, 75% new business and 25% existing business support.

The two lottery ceremonies were held in the first and third quarter of fiscal year respectively. National Skills Development Program is determined to provide advisory and technical assistance to business holders that needs assistance after granting them cash assistances.
